Go outside Mecklenburg County to Weddington, and the median was approximately $1.30 million.
So instead of asking, "Is $1 million a good budget for Charlotte?" ask:
What do I want my $1 million to prioritize?
If You Prioritize Location
Closer-in Charlotte locations can mean compromising elsewhere.
At $1 million, a buyer focused on highly sought-after established areas may need to be more flexible about square footage, age, renovation level or lot size.
That's not necessarily a bad trade.
You're choosing where you're putting the value.
If You Prioritize the House
Expand the map and the equation changes.
South Charlotte contains a wide range of established neighborhoods and housing types, and your budget may stretch differently depending on the exact location.
This is where we start comparing homes—not just ZIP codes.
If You Prioritize Land
Tell us that immediately.
"At least half an acre" is a different search from "I want a million-dollar home."
If privacy and property are major priorities, we'd evaluate areas where larger parcels are more prevalent rather than forcing the search into a location where land commands a substantial premium.
If You Prioritize New Construction
Again, location matters.
Charlotte-area new construction ranges from production homes to semi-custom communities, luxury infill and fully custom builds.
At $1 million, what's possible depends heavily on land cost and level of customization.
The Better Question
